The blockchain game Axie Infinity: Origins, has passed the exam to be offered on the iOS App Store. However, this is still limited to just a few countries, although anyone can download it via an APK file.
iOS welcomes Play-to-Earn Axie Infinity: Origins
On Wednesday, Axie Inifinity announced that its blockchain game Origins had successfully passed the exam to be listed on the iOS App Store:
1/ Origins has passed review with Apple and is now available on the App store!
We believe this is the first time that Apple has agreed to make an externally-purchased NFT usable on the App Store.

This is an interesting announcement, given Apple’s policy on non-fungible tokens (NFTs), in particular the 30% commission on sales, although this could now be circumvented.
For their part, the Axie Infinity teams believe that Origins is the first Apple-authorised game on the App Store involving NFTs external to iOS. On the other hand, some features will be inaccessible in their own right, requiring you to download versions of the game other than the one offered natively on iOS:
“
“.
“iOS players will be able to use their NFT axies in this version in a significant way. We believe this is the first time Apple has agreed to make an externally purchased NFT usable on the App Store. In addition, only Moonshard crafting recipes will be available in the app. So, to use the SLP crafting recipes, players will need to use the desktop/Android APK versions. “
Availability limited to a few countries
Initially, Axie Infinity: Origins was launched last December on Google Play Store for users based in Malaysia. The iOS version is also geographically limited to the following countries:
- Argentina;
- Colombia;
- Peru;
- Mexico;
- Venezuela ;
- Indonesia;
- Malaysia;
- Vietnam.
On the other hand, the game is accessible to anyone thanks to the desktop version, and even on smartphones thanks to an APK file available directly from the website of Sky Mavis, the publisher of this ecosystem.
While the project points out that 70% of its community members came to it through friends or family members, the arrival on a major Store like Apple’s could give its adoption a boost.
More broadly, it will be interesting to see how other Play-to-Earns also mix with mainstream platforms that bring together “Web2 applications”.
