ZenGo Wallet introduces ClearSign: the first dedicated Web 3 “firewall

by Tim

ZenGo Wallet introduces ClearSign, a new secure and easy way to sign Web 3 transactions. This tool protects your cryptocurrencies from phishing attacks, malicious smart contracts and also reduces the risk of losing non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

ClearSign, a welcome addition to ZenGo to secure Web 3

Cryptocurrency security and Web 3.0 access app ZenGo is launching ClearSign, a tool that prevents users from losing their cryptocurrencies and NFTs by signing dubious smart contract transactions.

With ClearSign, users of decentralised applications (dApps) now have optimal control over the rights they grant to third parties regarding access to their wallet.

Thus, ZenGo’s ClearSign tool acts as a true firewall within your cryptocurrency wallet.

With the rise of Web3, users are increasingly exposed to attacks orchestrated by malicious actors in order to steal their cryptocurrencies. This is one of the reasons why ZenGo has developed ClearSign, always with a view to securing the ecosystem:

“It’s a critical industry problem: Web3 users need a better way to understand on-chain transactions before they sign them. Now, with ClearSign, instead of blindly signing transactions and messages offline, ZenGo users will get detailed and transparent information and alerts about the transactions they are about to sign […]. “

Who hasn’t signed a transaction without really understanding the consequences? Often composed of a series of functions and variables, the messages displayed by portfolios such as MetaMask are not understandable, and many users may mistakenly give permissions that will prove catastrophic.

It is mainly this lack of understanding that ClearSign addresses with clear messages, as you can see in the screenshot below.

What are the use cases for ClearSign?

When a ZenGo user signs a transaction, this new tool presents a clear, readable message that truly explains what is involved in each interaction with a decentralised application.

ClearSign also provides informative alerts for high-risk transactions and acts as a firewall to block unwanted actions related to supported decentralised applications.

Finally, without setting aside security, it allows you to sign a transaction without the need for a private key.

What kind of errors and attacks can ClearSign detect?

Specifically, ClearSign allows the user to avoid many things that could be catastrophic to their wallet:

  • Decentralised application identity theft on social networks;
  • Identity theft of people and NFTs projects, e.g. BAYC on Instagram, Beeple on Twitter;
  • Taking control of a smart contract or decentralised application interface by a malicious third party;
  • Abusive authorisations of abusive smart contracts (fake NFT mint, fake token airdrop);
  • Some smart contract bugs;
  • Recurring human errors, such as “fat finger” errors, where users can lose thousands of dollars because of a wrong manipulation.

For the launch of ClearSign, ZenGo is collaborating with Collab.Land, a leading Web 3 community management service. This integration will allow ZenGo users to ensure that they are using the real Collab.Land application, as well as avoid potential phishing scams.
