Telegram channels will now receive 50% of advertising revenue in TON – Cryptocurrency on the rise

by Patricia

The owners of Telegram channels will now be able to earn revenue from them. These will be exclusively in TON, the cryptocurrency associated with the messaging app. This is an achievement for the company, which comes after long legal setbacks.

Telegram channel owners can now receive rewards in TON

Pavel Durov, Telegram’s CEO, announced the new feature on his own channel. He explained last week that broadcast channels accounted for 1,000 billion views every month. But according to him, only 10% of these channels were monetized until now.

This is no longer the case: the Telegram Ads platform, which manages advertising on the application, is now open to all users in some 100 countries. Activated last Friday, the functionality enables creators to recoup 50% of the advertising revenue they broadcast.

And these revenues are distributed in Troncoin (TON), the cryptocurrency associated with Telegram :

“We’ll sell ads and share the revenue with channel owners via Toncoin. “

Pavel Durov hopes this will create a “virtuous circle”, allowing users to earn income from their creations, or reinvest their TON in promoting their channels.

TON price rises sharply following announcement

The TON share price has risen sharply since the announcement by Telegram’s CEO. Over the week, it has gained 27.9%, including 3.6% over the last 24 hours:

It’s worth noting, however, that this rise in the Toncoin price closely follows that of Bitcoin (BTC). Beyond the novelty offered by Telegram, TON is also being driven by the considerable enthusiasm driving the crypto markets in recent days. TON is now the 18th most capitalized cryptocurrency in the world.*

The chequered history of TON

To say that Toncoin got off to a rocky start is an understatement. The Ton Open Network (TON) was a Telegram-native blockchain. But the big bad wolf of cryptocurrencies, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), sued Telegram shortly after its launch in 2018. As a result, Telegram had been forced to sever ties with its blockchain… Which continued to develop on its own.

Since 2022, Toncoin has been integrated into Telegram, and Pavel Durov has confirmed the company’s ambitious plans:

“The next step for Telegram is to build a set of decentralized tools, including self-hosted wallets and decentralized exchange platforms so that millions of people can securely exchange and store cryptocurrencies. “

So the plan is well and truly underway. Telegram, with over 800 million active users, is sending out a strong signal in favor of blockchain and cryptocurrencies.
