MetaMask: Microsoft joins Infura wallet network alongside other giants

Microsoft, Tencent and 16 other giants have joined forces with Infura to launch the Decentralized Infrastructure Network (DIN). A subsidiary of Consensus, Infura is best known for operating the default network used by the popular MetaMask wallet. What is DIN?

To help Infura decentralize its Remote Procedure Call (RPC) network, Microsoft, Tencent and 16 other companies have joined forces to create the Decentralized Infrastructure Network (DIN):

As a subsidiary of Consensys, Infura maintains a network of nodes on Ethereum (ETH), Polygon (MATIC) and other blockchains, as well as the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS).

This enables the company to provide a multitude of services to developers and other players on these networks. For example, one of the best-known applications is that the default RPCs of the MetaMask wallet, also developed by Consensys, are those of Infura.

The aim of this consortium is to decentralize the infrastructure deployed by Infura, diversifying the risk, for example, should one or other of its companies encounter a problem, thus enabling the network to continue operating normally.

EG Galano, co-founder of Infura and DIN project manager, was particularly optimistic about these various associations:

Since we announced DIN, the response from the community has exceeded our expectations. Together, we’ve made remarkable progress and look forward to the rest of this journey as we bring the power of DIN to Web3 developers and users. “

First, this decentralization of DIN will pass through the federation stage, represented by the set of parts below:

For his part, Erik Ashdown, head of Covalent’s ecosystem, hailed the importance of this association, with the aim of offering the best possible services to application developers:

“While other infrastructure providers are engaged in an arms race to gobble up market share, Infura has taken a totally different direction with the launch of DIN. Working with partners who have already optimized parts of the stack to better serve the developer, it really embodies the crypto philosophy […]. “

While Infura occupies an important place in the crypto ecosystem, whether on Ethereum or other blockchains, the partnership between these different players shows the interest shown in blockchain technologies by non-crypto-native giants.
