Disney Pinnacle: what do we know about this mysterious NFT collection powered by Dapper Labs?

On Tuesday, Dapper Labs announced a brand new NFT collection called Disney Pinnacle. What do we know about this collection, and is it a real partnership with Disney?

Dapper Labs presents the Disney Pinnacle collection

Tuesday afternoon, Dapper Labs, the company behind the Flow blockchain and non-fungible token (NFT) collections such as NBA Top Shot, unveiled a waitlist for a new project: Disney Pinnacle.

As yet, relatively little information is available on this new collection, except that it will offer pins, the famous “pins”, on the themes of Disney, Star War and Pixar characters in digital format:

Unsurprisingly, these NFTs will be powered by the Flow blockchain.

For his part, Roham Gharegozlou, CEO of Dapper Labs, said the news “has a special meaning for him”:

“Walt Disney’s story was a source of inspiration for me as a founder. Walt would have loved Web3 because Web3 unleashes our creativity, our inner child, our dreams, connecting creators and storytellers to their audience like never before. That’s very Disney. We’re honored to continue Walt’s legacy with Disney Pinnacle. “

A true partnership between Dapper Labs and Disney

Disney’s work in the Web3 universe is no secret. Last year, for example, Polygon (MATIC) joined the Disney Accelerator program to benefit from the company’s expertise and network.

In September of the same year, The Walt Disney Company also published an advertisement for the recruitment of an NFT lawyer.

This time, although Dapper Labs’ communications suggest a partnership with Disney, Disney Pinnacle is in fact the direct initiative of the NFT studio.

Indeed, the official website and terms of use explicitly state that the project is powered by Dapper Labs, specifying that it is licensed content:

“The following privacy policy and notice apply to your participation in a closed beta version […] of Dapper Labs’ […] application for viewing, collecting, purchasing and trading digital collectible tokens containing licensed content from The Walt Disney Company, its affiliates and subsidiaries […]. “

Note that it is indeed theoretically possible for anyone to sell licensed Disney products by subscribing to a specific contract while respecting certain eligibility conditions.

While the NFT market is not necessarily in the best of shape at the moment, it could be interesting to follow the evolution of Disney Pinnacle in the future.
