Web3 and social networks: Aave acquires Sonar, a metaverse project for mobiles

by Patricia

Aave continues to develop its Lens Protocol ecosystem with the acquisition of the mobile metaverse Sonar. Sonar joins the range of Web3 social networking applications offered by Lens

Aave Companies acquires Sonar

The diversification of Aave’s social networking activities is no secret and it is embodied through Lens Protocol. Aave Companies, the company in charge of developing the ecosystem, has just reaffirmed this ambition with the acquisition of Sonar:

Released in 2020 and available on iOS, Sonar is intended to be a mobile metaverse. Stani Kulechov, the founder of Aave showed his enthusiasm for the arrival of this project in the Lens ecosystem:

“We are excited to have the Sonar team join our Lens team to accelerate our social media and mobile app strategy. “

To date, Sonar’s flagship product is a collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) called “Moji”. Mojis represent 3D emojis, which serve as avatars in Sonar games. According to OpenSea, the collection’s activity has benefited from the announcement with 51 total sales on Monday, a figure that rarely exceeded two units per day until then.

An ever-growing ecosystem

After six months in closed beta, Lens Protocol already claims more than 105,000 user profiles and over 7.8 million gas-free transactions. Sonar is to join the panel of applications that revolve around Lens Protocol, such as Lenster, Lenstube or Lensta for example, each with their own specificities.

Owners of an NFT Moji can create their Lens profile over the next 14 days to join and discover the ecosystem.

The founding team of Sonar will continue to work on the project. Randolph Lee, one of the co-founders, will become a senior engineer, while his brother Ben South Lee will take on the role of Vice President of Products and Design. The latter was proud of this new start:

“We love to work with you.
We love Aave’s approach to social networking via Lens protocol. It was clear to us that all the foundations to really transform the way we connect online are there on Lens. “

So we see with this latest news that Aave continues to put its marbles, to become a pillar of Web3, whose values are particularly important on the content creation dimension. On the decentralized finance aspect (DeFi), we can also underline good progress, with notably the imminent arrival of the GHO stablecoin, or the adoption of the protocol by giants of traditional finance such as JP Morgan.
