While Bloomberg estimated Changpeng’s fortune at $17 billion two months ago, this value has now more than doubled. This valuation is all the more surprising, given CZ’s current troubles with the U.S. justice system.
Changpeng Zhao’s fortune is estimated at 36.2 billion dollars
Just 2 months ago, we took a look back at the fortune of Changpeng Zhao (CZ), the founder of Binance, which had been heavily impacted by the bear market.
Estimated at the time at $17.3 billion by Bloomberg in its ranking of billionaires, CZ’s wealth has since been largely revalued, despite his problems with the American justice system.
According to the latest calculations, the entrepreneur has a fortune of $36.2 billion:
Valuation of Changpeng Zhao’s fortune over a one-year period
As can be seen from the chart below, the current figures, although lower than this summer’s annual highs, represent an increase of over 187% over a 12-month period.
This comes against a particular backdrop for the ex-CEO of Binance, as he has had to face heavy sanctions in the USA over irregularities at the exchange he founded.
He owes his freedom to a $175 million bail pending trial, while the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) fined him $150 million.
Despite these difficulties and the uncertainty weighing on CZ’s shoulders, we note that they do not appear to be impacting his fortunes. Indeed, even though he has been forced to step down, he still retains his shares.
The healthy state of the cryptocurrency ecosystem in recent months has had a positive impact on Binance’s volumes, and this has helped value the company in the calculations used by Bloomberg for the estimates presented here.
However, let’s remember the limited nature of these figures, as Binance is not a listed company, making it more difficult to value it accurately, adding to this the fact that Bloomberg also does not take into account Changpeng Zhao’s cryptocurrency holdings and any other assets.
