Ledger lands on MetaMask’s mobile app

While such a feature was long overdue, Ledger announced this week that its Nano X hardware wallets can now be used on the MetaMask mobile app. We take a look at this new feature.

Ledger Nano X hardware wallets are now compatible with the MetaMask mobile application

For many years now, Ledger hardware wallets have been compatible with the MetaMask web browser extension, but until now, this security layer was missing when it came to the mobile application.

However, this gap has now been closed, as Ledger announced on Thursday:

Announced in July 2022, it will have taken almost 2 years for this feature to materialize.

Carl Anderson, Ledger’s Vice President of Engineering, emphasized the importance of autoguard for the 2 players:

“MetaMask and Ledger are autoguard maxes, so it made sense for us to partner and offer Web3 users a great mix of smooth experience and top-notch security. “

For the time being, only the Ledger Nano X is compatible with MetaMask thanks to its Bluetooth connection, so we’ll have to wait a little longer for support for the brand’s other hardware wallet ranges.

Remember that a private key stored on a machine such as a mobile device or computer is particularly vulnerable to hacking. And for good reason: any fraudulent application could search for it to steal the associated cryptocurrencies, which is not possible with a hardware wallet, as long as no physical validation is carried out.

Recently, the two companies have entered into a number of high-profile partnerships. On the one hand, Coinbase Pay functionalities were added to the Ledger Live app last February in order to purchase cryptocurrencies directly from it, while on the MetaMask side, a partnership with Revolut was unveiled this week.
