A serum for NFT Bored Ape

Taylor Gerring, the co-founder of the Ethereum blockchain, has spent $3.5 million to acquire a “mega mutant serum”, allowing him to turn a copy of a non-fungible token (NFT) from the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) collection into a “mutant Ape”, thus gaining rarity and therefore value.

The lucky buyer tweeted yesterday to announce that he would be filming the transformation of his NFT live, although he did not specify the date.

The deal moves directly into 20th place on the list of most expensive NFT purchases in history across all platforms

Note that the seller of the serum had originally obtained it completely free of charge as it was a reward for holders of NFTs Bored Ape Yacht Club.

NFTs are becoming increasingly rare

BAYCs were launched in April 2021, and their buyers were rewarded via an airdrop in August with mutant serums divided into 3 categories: M1s, M2s and M3s, in order of rarity.

These serums allow, when added to the original NFT, to add different characteristics and to give it a specific visual aspect.

On airdrop day, BAYC racked up $96 million in revenue in one hour just by selling 10,000 copies of mutant monkeys, along with the 10,000 serums distributed to early buyers.

In Taylor Gerring’s case, it’s an “M3” serum, which is the rarest, and will allow him to sell (if he chooses) his mutant monkey at a premium.

Prices are going through the roof

We already told you about it a few days ago, the price of BAYC’s NFTs has surpassed that of the pioneers in the field, the famous CryptoPunks.

The popularity of NFTs representing these monkey profiles continues to grow, garnering ever increasing sales volumes:

Having already proven to us that they want to show a close link with their community, it is likely that the popularity of BAYC’s NFTs will continue to grow, especially with the announcement of their roadmap 2.0 in September of this year.

A popularity that even interests world-famous celebrities such as Post Malone, Stephen Curry, Jimmy Fallon and Steve Aoki have themselves publicly announced that they have purchased copies of these monkeys.

After the announcement of a partnership with the sports brand Adidas and the launch of a token next year, 2022 is likely to be a great year for Bored Ape owners.
