Puma buys an ENS domain name

Decentralized domain names, such as those offered by Ethereum Name Service, are booming right now. Large companies are not mistaken, and are starting to reserve their .eth or other URLs, which take the form of non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

This week, German sports brand Puma took its turn to buy a domain name from ENS, a project based on the Ethereum blockchain (ETH). Its arrival was welcomed by the ENS Twitter account:

Decentralised addresses are both URLs and portfolio addresses. They can be linked to a profile picture, an email address… or a Twitter account.

Puma and NFT

The purchase of an ENS address is not the first time Puma has done this. Recently, the brand has purchased several non-fungible tokens. There is a very feline main theme, with Cool Cats, Lazy Lions… Or Catblox, who welcomed the purchase:

The sports brands seem to have decided to enter the NFT field. Rival Adidas has been announcing such initiatives for several months now. Recently, the brand joined forces with Prada for a participatory NFT project.

On the Nike side, the initiatives are a little more timid, but present. Last December, we learned that the company had bought RTFKT, a company that creates virtual sneakers.

In any case, all this shows that the use of .eth names is becoming more widespread. This is a facet of NFT that is still relatively confidential, but which will probably be one of the key sectors of 2022. We will therefore follow its development with interest
