NFT in the service of copyright: DJ Agoria transforms the musical experience thanks to Web3

by Thomas

A heavyweight on the French and international techno scene, Agoria is celebrating his second anniversary as a digital artist involved in the Web3 revolution. To thank his most fervent NFT collectors, he has dedicated a brand new track to them called {agorians}. And that’s not all, as he has teamed up with the Bolero platform to offer them all the rights to the track. Explanation

Agoria gives a great gift to its Web3 community

After more than two decades of getting electronic music fans dancing all over the world, Lyon-based Sébastien Devaud, aka Agoria, is now one of the most active artists in the burgeoning Web3 universe.

Like many musicians, Sébastien Devaud’s plans were turned upside down by the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic. But the closure of clubs and the cancellation of festivals did nothing to dampen his creativity.

Encouraged by gallery owner Victoire de Pourtalès, he has teamed up with two of his friends to create his very first NFT (non-fungible token) in 2021, an astonishing film that shows what happens in the soil when hemp grows. Called “Phytocene”, this first project inspired his entire current artistic practice, which is part of what he calls organic generative art. His aim? To inscribe the living in the blockchain.

Since its first experiment in Web3, Agoria has multiplied its blockchain-related projects. In particular, it plans to inaugurate its Land in the Sandbox metaverse this year. It has also released dozens of NFTs on the Tezos blockchain, which it particularly likes for its low fees, and has teamed up with Ledger for a collection called {Comp-nd}.

Agoria is now celebrating two years as a digital artist, and he has decided to mark the occasion by offering a handsome reward to the most active members of his community. He has created a new track for them called {agorians}, which will be released on 7 June 2023, before teaming up with the Bolero platform to transfer all related rights to them, for all eternity.

A Franco-French partnership with the Bolero platform

Founded in 2021 by music professionals and blockchain technology pioneers, the Bolero platform is a French innovation. As well as issuing fan tokens, it allows fans to acquire shares in their favourite artists’ tracks (or Song Shares). This enables them to support the creation of new music, but also to share in the success of their favourite musicians. Holding one or more shares in a song entitles you to a share of the royalties attached to it. Purchasers receive a percentage of the recording rights.

Always keen to experiment with the infinite possibilities offered by Web3, Agoria has entered into a partnership with Bolero to reward its most loyal NFT collectors. He has created a new track as a gift for them. A catchy track called {agorians}, in reference to the nickname he gives to members of his community.

In practice, 100% of the royalties linked to this new track are being distributed to his fans: 90% are reserved for the top 100 collectors of his NFT {Comp-nd} collection, as well as the owners of his works released on Tezos, while the remaining 10% have been put up for sale on Bolero, in order to offer a chance to all fans wishing to join in the adventure.

In detail, owners of chunk shares will receive income from:

  • Digital sales (downloads and streaming);
  • Physical sales;
  • Synchronisation agreements (if the track is used in a film or advertisement).

William Bailey, CEO and co-founder of Bolero, was keen to stress the importance of this collaboration for the future of the music industry:

“It’s not just about the music industry.

“This is the first time that the intellectual property of a song has been shared 100%, and it leads the way thanks to an artist who has always been at the forefront of innovation. Artists will be able to take advantage of this new standard to monetise from 1% to 100% of their music catalogues, regaining their independence and benefiting from a new source of income that is both sustainable and recurring. “

A new step in Agoria’s exploration of Web3

With this new project, Agoria is rewarding the members of its community while seeking to bring them closer together. And what better way to bring them together than with a unifying anthem that has already proved its worth on the dancefloors of Ibiza? In any case, some of the most enthusiastic ‘Agorians’ didn’t hesitate to make the trip to Lisbon on 7 June 2023, as part of the Non Fungible Conference, to attend the official release party for the track released the same day.

Agoria, for his part, was keen to remind us of the reasons that led him to venture off the beaten track of musical creation once again:

It’s time to innovate, experiment and give back to all the loyal Agorians who have supported me over the past two years. I also see this as a sincere and legitimate opportunity for my traditional partners to enter our ecosystem. I’m delighted that Sapiens Records, Believe Distribution and Bolero have come together to make this happen. “

We can’t wait to see what the Lyon-based musician has in store for us next, particularly to celebrate the forthcoming inauguration of his Land in The Sandbox.
