The Phantom wallet, historically linked to Solana (SOL), now supports the Bitcoin blockchain (BTC). This makes it compatible with Ordinals registrations, including BRC-20. Serious competition for the hegemonic MetaMask?

Bitcoin (BTC) and Ordinals land on Phantom wallet

According to Phantom’s press release, the feature is now available in Beta version. To start using Bitcoin with Phantom, interested parties must manually activate the network in the settings:

The portfolio lets you manage your addresses using Segwit, Taproot or both. It’s also possible to buy bitcoins directly from the interface. What’s particularly noteworthy is that the arrival of the Bitcoin blockchain opens up the Phantom ecosystem to Ordinals registrations, and thus to BRC-20s, a new token standard on Bitcoin.

Phantom goes multi-network

Phantom was originally a wallet dedicated to Solana (SOL). But since this year, it has opened up to several networks: Ethereum (ETH) and Polygon (MATIC). Bitcoin (BTC) was a logical next step in meeting demand for the two biggest cryptocurrencies of the moment.

According to Phantom CEO Brandon Millman, the future of the ecosystem will indeed be multichannel:

“We believe the future of digital asset management lies in cross-chain interoperability. “

In particular,

Phantom provides access to decentralized applications (including those related to decentralized finance) from Solana and Ethereum. In recent months, the wallet has had over 3 million users. With the arrival of Bitcoiners, the wallet’s popularity could grow. To the point of dethroning MetaMask? That’s the question that could be asked
