Donald Trump, who recently announced his candidacy for the upcoming 2024 presidential elections, has launched a collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) featuring him and allowing people to enjoy various experiences with him. The day after the announcement, all 45,000 NFTs available at a single price of $99 were sold out.

Donald Trump as “America’s hero “

In a post on his own Truth Social network, former US President Donald Trump announced the launch of a collection of non-fungible tokens (NFT) bearing his likeness. The billionaire and business leader appears in the form of vignettes depicting him in a superhero uniform or in various humorous poses.

These NFTs, all sold at the time of writing, were minted on the Polygon (MATIC) sidechain in a number of 45,000 and were launched at a single price of 99 dollars. The NFTs in this collection are each available in quantities of up to 20 units, and can be traded on all Polygon-supported NFT marketplaces, according to information on the site created for the occasion.

This collection of the former president is reminiscent of the imagery of American baseball card collections, which have always been popular and saw a surge of interest during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Following the announcement of the launch of this collection, shortly after Donald Trump announced that he was running again for the US presidential elections in 2024, he was suspected of trying to finance his campaign with the funds raised from the sale.

However, it is explicitly stated on the dedicated website that the company NFT INT LLC, which is carrying out the sale, “uses the name, likeness and image of Donald J. Trump under a paid license […]”, and that the ex-president is paid for this use. It is also stated that the collection is in no way related to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.

During the sale, each NFT purchase offered the equivalent of a “lottery ticket” for access to certain experiences with Donald Trump, such as a call on Zoom, a cocktail party at the Mar-a-Lago mansion in Palm Beach, Florida, or a dinner in Miami.

In the process of purchasing an NFT, interested parties were invited to buy 45 NFTs (a price of $4,455), which offered them the possibility of obtaining 45 lottery tickets simultaneously, but more importantly, the assurance of attending a gala dinner with Donald Trump.

According to the information available on the NFT website, these could be obtained both by paying by credit card or in cryptocurrencies.

As a reminder, in September 2021, Donald Trump said that Bitcoin (BTC) and crypto-currencies more broadly were hurting the US dollar, adding that the digital currency industry was a “potential disaster”.
