Olympia launches membership cards in the form of NFTs

by Tim

Supported by the French marketplace Tailor, Olympia is about to launch 250 membership cards in the form of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Called “The O’Gs”, this collection will be available for pre-sale from 4 July, before being offered to all on 6 July. Zoom on this first foray of the mythical Parisian concert hall into the Web3.

French collaboration between L’Olympia and Tailor

Impermeable to criticism, non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are attracting more and more companies looking to embrace the Web3 revolution. This time, it’s L’Olympia that has just announced its very first collection, consisting of 250 membership cards in the form of pixel art avatars.

To set up this collection of NFTs, the Parisian concert hall has teamed up with marketplace Tailor, which is in charge of developing the technological part of the project.

This French startup, incubated at Station F, specialises in ticketing and collectibles in the form of NFTs for live events. This collaboration with L’Olympia is its first public project.

NFTs with lifetime privileges

For this initiative, Tailor and L’Olympia are offering 250 profile pic NFTs for sale, which will serve as membership cards for their holders. These cards will give them lifetime privileges, both with the concert hall and the NFTs marketplace. You can discover them on the official project page.

Beware, if all these avatars serving as membership cards are unique, they are grouped into several groups providing greater or lesser benefits depending on their rarity. Here they are, classified from the most to the least rare:

  • The O’Jacks (4 units available) ;
  • The O’Beats (15 units available);
  • The O’Tunes (80 units available) ;
  • The O’Tracks (150 units available).

If you’ve been paying attention, you’ve probably noticed that one NFT was missing to reach the total of 250 membership cards. This is Absolute Ear, the boss of the “O’Gs”. This unique avatar provides privileges that would make any music fan jealous: a lifetime VIP pass for two to attend twelve events of your choice per year, as well as free drinks at the bar on every night, not to mention a free dinner for two at the restaurant “Le Petit Olympia”. This exceptional card will be auctioned off, with part of the proceeds going to the charity of the purchaser’s choice.

All these pixel art characters come from the imagination of Antoine Duten, an artist from the prestigious Gobelins school, who calls himself Baron de Pîquesel on Instagram. His inspirations range from the board game Jet Set Radio, to characters from the band Gorillaz, to retro 8/16 bit video games from the 1990s.

The membership cards will be available for pre-sale (whitelist) from the 4th of July, for all those who have met the criteria detailed on the project page. The rest of the collection will be sold at a public auction on 6 July.

Initially, buyers will not know the group to which their “O’G” belongs. They will all be revealed on 12 July at noon Paris time. Only then will holders discover their avatar and the privileges that come with it.

More immersive experiences, richer interactions

For L’Olympia, riding the wave of NFTs has several advantages. It is counting on this experience to build loyalty among new, younger audiences who are sensitive to the cryptocurrency ecosystem. It also allows it to show that as it approaches its 130th anniversary, this legendary concert hall remains at the forefront of innovation.

Laurent de Cerner, President of L’Olympia, spoke about the motivations surrounding this project:

The O’Gs project is part of L’Olympia’s ongoing commitment to using the latest innovations to offer its audiences ever more innovative and immersive experiences […] while preserving its identity, its taste for all cultures and its roots in society.

This initiative is further proof of the many applications of NFTs in the music world. Earlier this year, the Coachella festival conducted a similar operation, selling lifetime tickets in the form of NFTs.

It must be said that this technology lends itself perfectly to this: the ownership of these tickets and other membership cards is easily verifiable on the blockchain, which limits fraud and facilitates exchanges. We should therefore see more and more artists, concert halls and events taking advantage of this technology to offer new experiences to music fans.
