Which countries are most interested in Web3 games?

In its latest study, CoinGecko looked at which countries are most interested in Web3 video games. The methodology used focuses on the popularity of 7 keywords related to this sector on Google Trends:

  • Play to earn ;
  • P2E ;
  • GameFi ;
  • Play and earn ;
  • Blockchain game ;
  • Crypto game ;
  • NFT game.

In terms of consistency, the Philippines stands out, holding first place for 3 consecutive years.

Also on the podium, Nigeria has made a name for itself, rising from 5th to 2nd place in less than 3 years, dethroning China. China has dropped to 9th place, probably due to government restrictions, although the use of VPS could partly distort the results.

Over the period studied, the entire American continent from north to south is absent, with one exception: Venezuela in 8th position in 2021.

In this respect, Europe is also a poor performer. If we consider Russia to be part of the European continent, it will make a brief appearance in 6th place in 2022, otherwise we’ll have to wait until this year, with the Netherlands in 8th place.

On the African side, we mentioned Nigeria earlier, but Kenya has also made an appearance in the rankings, now in 10th place.

While the subject of GameFi can be a divisive one, with some believing that it should not bring a financial dimension to video games, and others seeing it as a real revolution in terms of ownership, it will be interesting to follow the evolution of this interest over the years.
