The giants of social networks are not done with NFTs. After Twitter’s announcement a few days ago, it’s Reddit’s turn to consider profile pictures as non-fungible tokens. This news comes shortly after YouTube also said it was looking into the matter for content creators.
Soon to have NFT on your Reddit profile
In any case, it is a project in the test phase that was confirmed by Tim Rathschmidt, the spokesman for the social network. This is what he told TechCrunch:
“We’re always exploring ways to bring value to users and communities on Reddit. Right now, we’re testing the ability to use NFTs as profile pictures (avatars) and verify ownership. […] This is a small internal test and no decision has been made about extending or rolling out the feature. “
As stated in this statement, there are currently no details regarding a possible release date for NFT profile pictures on Reddit. But after the recent announcement of Twitter or YouTube, we suspect that the big brands are only at the beginning of their projects around non-fungible tokens.
This is not Reddit’s first step into the world of NFTs, as the social network has launched a collection of 4 illustrations on the theme of Snoo, its alien mascot, at the end of 2021
A novelty discovered by a Twitter user
It was user Nima Owji who first unveiled Reddit’s NFT project. Indeed, the 15-year-old developer likes to poke around in apps to try and discover new previews.

This is not his only discovery about Reddit and NFTs. While digging into the platform’s code, he also found references that led him to OpenSea. More specifically, the Rinkeby test network and a collection of NFTs featuring the Snoo mascot again.
This is more than just a fad that some dubious projects are riding on, it is another example of the interest that large companies have in this innovation. It is certain that this technology, in the broadest sense of the term, is building the world of tomorrow, beyond simple JPEGs.
