Square Enix’s Dungeon Siege returns to The Sandbox metaverse

by Patricia

Square Enix is collaborating with The Sandbox to bring its Dungeon Siege franchise into the metaverse. Let’s take a look at the history of this video game series, and the experience that will be offered to players

Square Enix partners with The Sandbox

Square Enix, the owner of the Dungeon Siege franchise, is partnering with The Sandbox to bring the universe of these games to life in the metaverse. The studio is also known for managing famous names such as Final Fantasy and Tomb Raider.

With this association, Sébastien Borget, co-founder of The Sandbox, is banking on the appeal of the role-playing dimension of his virtual universe to his community of players:

The RPG category is one of the most dynamic and popular segments of The Sandbox, making Dungeon Siege a perfect choice for our community. […] With the Dungeon Siege experience on the Square Enix domain, players will be able to embark on an organized adventure that will help prepare them to create their own original quests inspired by the classic games, continuing the legacy of the franchise. “

Mods (additional content created by fans) creators should also find something to their liking, in addition to what will be offered in the Square Enix Land. Indeed, on the one hand, there will be the official content, and on the other hand, the possibility to make your own creations on your own land thanks to the official content of the license.

Dungeon Siege, a mythical franchise

Dungeon Siege is an RPG originally released in 2002, then accompanied by several sequels. The franchise is owned by Square Enix, which had a turnover of 2.5 billion euros last year.

In the first game, which sold 1.7 million copies, the player was a farmer in the medieval-fantasy world of Ehb. As the hero progressed through the story, he would develop skills and recruit other companions to his party in order to thwart the plans of forces threatening his kingdom.

Square Enix is no stranger to The Sandbox, having already invested in this metaverse two years ago. An early investment, well before the start of the virtual universe craze of recent months. Warner Music and Gucci, for example, have recently joined the Sandbox, also surfing on the trend
