Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland can now boast the record for the most expensive card in the Sorare blockchain game. A non-fungible token (NFT) associated with it sold for 265 ETH, or over $680,000.

Erling Haaland dethroned Cristiano Ronaldo

Previously, it was Cristiano Ronaldo who held the record on Sorare: $400,000 last November. But last night, the Borussia Dortmund striker’s unique card sold at auction for 265 ETH, nearly $683,000 at the auction, or nearly 610,000 euros.

The auction ended last night and user Zima Blue is now the proud owner of this unique card. With two minutes to go, the price was already close to 120 ETH before the bidding soared to become the platform’s record.

You can see the replay of the auction on the Twitter of analytics tool Sorare Data (at 24 minutes):

French unicorn back in the news

A few days ago, Sorare had already made news by announcing the arrival of Serena Williams on its board of directors.

As a reminder, Sorare is a blockchain fantasy football game using non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Often described as a cross between Panini and Football Manager albums, the player puts together a team of five cards whose results from real players in the real world will determine their score.

This allows the best users of the platform to win new cards and sometimes larger or smaller amounts of money. These cards are divided into several categories: Common (unlimited), Limited (1,000 copies), Rare (100), Super Rare (10) and Unique.

The cards are therefore traded at varying prices depending on their rarity and the level of the player. It is thanks to this business model that Sorare has been able to join the very closed circle of French unicorns. Last September, the company raised $680 million, valuing it at $4.3 billion.

While waiting to see Sorare in the news again, let’s hope for Zima Blue that it will be able to make a profit on its new investment
