Changpeng Zhao (CZ) confirms that Binance.US will make an offer for Voyager Digital

by Patricia

After the abandonment of FTX’s takeover of Voyager Digital’s assets, CZ confirmed that Binance.US would make its bid for an acquisition. He also returned to Binance’s Chinese origins.

Binance.US interested in Voyager Digital

If there is one community that must feel aggrieved in the FTX bankruptcy, it is Voyager Digital’s customers. And for good reason, after numerous twists and turns regarding the rescue of the platform, FTX.US was supposed to buy back the exchange’s assets for $1.4 billion. Needless to say, since the recent episodes, this operation has fallen through :

Rumours naturally turned to Binance as early as last week, regarding a possible takeover of the platform. In an interview with Bloomberg, Changpeng Zhao (CZ) has since confirmed that Binance.US will renew its offer to Voyager Digital:

The question of Binance’s Chinese origin

Diplomatic relations between Beijing and Washington are not the most peaceful, and as a result, the US is not always open to a Chinese takeover of an American company. But the case of Binance is difficult to grasp.

While it is generally accepted that the company originated in China, the exact location of the parent company is sometimes difficult to agree upon. For his part, Changpeng Zhao explicitly stated that Binance was not linked to China and accused FTX of fuelling rumours to win the initial bid:

“Firstly, I would like to say that I am very happy with the way the company is doing.
First, I think the US national security concerns were rumours spread by FTX to try to exclude us from the bid. [Binance is not a Chinese company, we are not connected to China at all. This comes up a lot, because I look like a Chinese guy, but I’ve been a Canadian for 40 years. “

Beyond the financial aspect, we also note that geopolitics also has a say in deals of this magnitude.

Whatever the exact position of the platform, the potential takeover of Voyager would however be carried out by the American branch Binance.US. Furthermore, it should be noted that while FTX is a Bahamas-registered company, it was a few years ago also affiliated with China due to a global headquarters in Hong Kong in the past.

Pending the outcome of these negotiations, Voyager Digital’s customers will have to continue to wait for the full release of their funds
