Uniswap’s wallet lands on Android – What’s special about it?

by Tim

After a closed beta period, Uniswap’s Web3 wallet (UNI) is now available to all Android users. What’s special about this wallet?

Uniswap opens its wallet to all Android users

This week, Uniswap (UNI) opened up access to its Web3 wallet to all users of Android-based smartphones:

Until then, this wallet had only been available to users in certain countries on iOS, and in closed beta on Android since October 12.

As a result, the app offers all the convenience an investor has a right to expect when trading cryptocurrencies from their smartphone. For example, swaps are carried out from private transaction pools, so as to protect users from traders taking advantage of the blockchain’s public information to carry out sandwich attacks.

As is the case with most Web3 wallets, Uniswap’s wallet also enables users to view their non-fungible tokens (NFT). What’s more, there’s no longer any need to switch networks to carry out operations on other blockchains or layer 2, as all this is accessible from the same menu.

Security points to consider

The first important point to consider with the Uniswap wallet is, of course, to download the right application. In this case, it’s the one offered by Uniswap Labs. Otherwise, it could be a fraudulent application seeking to deploy malware on your device with the aim of stealing your cryptocurrencies.

It should also be pointed out that, for the time being, it is not possible to pair the application with a hardware wallet, but only to create a new wallet or import an existing one. This should be kept in mind, as no funds intended for long-term investment will be stored.

As for the private key, the application suggests saving a recovery file on Google Drive, or securing the seed phrase manually. In the first case, it should be pointed out that if your Google Drive space is breached, your funds could be exposed. In the case of a manual backup, you must also take care not to save anything on a device that can access the Internet.

Beyond these security considerations, this wallet demonstrates Uniswap’s diversification beyond its decentralized exchange, while remaining the market leader in DEX.
