Tezos (XTZ) signs partnership with French esports giant Vitality

The blockchain Tezos (XTZ) has signed a 3-year partnership with French esports club Team Vitality. In addition to a logo appearance on the players’ jerseys, Tezos will design blockchain-based applications for the team, including a marketplace for non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and tools for fan engagement.

Tezos blockchain enters esports with Vitality

Video games are definitely attracting a lot of companies in the world of blockchain and cryptocurrencies. After Coinbase, FTX or Crypto.com, it is the turn of the blockchain Tezos to make its first steps in esport, by signing a 3-year partnership with the French Team Vitality.

In a press release, Team Vitality claims that this partnership will “revolutionise” the experience of its fans. In addition to the Tezos logo on the team’s new jerseys, a number of blockchain applications will be developed in the coming months.

Tezos teams will help Vitality design non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and a dedicated marketplace. Vitality players will also work to educate their fans about blockchain technology, which is relatively common in other partnerships of this type.

“This is truly a game-changing partnership for Vitality and is timely given that 2022 is set to be our biggest year ever. The opportunities Tezos can bring to strengthen the relationship with our fans are incredibly exciting, and we are immensely proud to have Tezos join us on this journey,” said Nicolas Maurer, director of Team Vitality.

Vitality justifies its choice of the Tezos blockchain by its low environmental impact, an argument shared by other Tezos partners such as McLaren, Ubisoft, Red Bull Racing, Exaion and Société Générale.

Historic agreement for Vitality and Tezos

While the terms of the agreement were not disclosed, Vitality describes its association with Tezos as its largest sponsorship deal to date and “one of the largest European partnerships in esports.

To date, Vitality is one of France’s most successful esports teams, and has a high profile in many competitions. As one of the most important French representatives on the international esports scene, Team Vitality is considered one of the three most influential structures in Europe, along with Fnatic and G2.

Although not mentioned in Vitality’s press release, this is not the first time the team has approached the world of cryptocurrencies. In June 2021, it launched its own fan token, VIT, in partnership with Chiliz (CHZ). Can we expect interactions between the VIT token and future applications developed by Tezos?

“This is a significant milestone for Europe’s largest esport team as the blockchain and video game industries continue to build a fan and gamer-centric future. Team Vitality’s decision to choose Tezos blockchain as its technical partner is another signal from the established and growing video game industry that low emissions, scalability and ease of use are key factors in the next wave of adoption of blockchain technologies. […]” added Mason Edwards, secretary general of the Tezos Foundation.

In a relatively bearish environment, XTZ’s share price was not at all impacted by the news, despite it being an important partnership for Tezos. In any case, the Tezos ecosystem continues to grow stronger and the teams seem determined to put their foot down on the marketing front
