Tendermint, the creator of Cosmos (ATOM), changes its name to Ignite

by v

The company Tendermint, the creator of the Cosmos (ATOM) ecosystem, has renamed itself Ignite. A new identity that is full of meaning. It is also an opportunity to recall the fundamentals of the technology, which could give it a card to play this year.

Tendermint is now called Ignite

Tendermint, the company behind the technologies on which the Cosmos ecosystem (ATOM) is built, is changing its name. It is now Ignite. Indeed, its founder and former CEO Jae Kwon, who left his place to Peng Zhong in May 2020, would like to take back the name of Tendermint for a new project.

Peng Zhong has therefore initiated a change of identity by choosing Ignite as his new name, which can be translated as “to ignite” or “to set ablaze”:

” As far as Ignite is concerned, it’s much more essential to what Cosmos is. It’s about the big bang. An explosion of new products on the Cosmos technology “

This change is essentially marketing and does not bring any technical novelties to the brand. But this choice is there to represent an idea that, through this “blaze”, Ignite gives birth to something much bigger than itself. For let’s remember that Cosmos (ATOM) is not just a blockchain, but an ecosystem that intends to connect as many blockchains as possible.

How Ignite and Cosmos work

Tendermint, now Ignite, created the tools that allow Cosmos (ATOM) to be called a layer 0 like its competitors Polkadot (DOT) and Kusama (KSM).

To simply explain the Cosmos (ATOM) ecosystem, imagine it as a human body. First of all, there is the Cosmos SDK, which allows you to easily develop your blockchain solution. The Cosmos SDK represents the stem cells, which in the formation of our body gave a heart, lungs, different muscles, etc. All these organs are the blockchains. All these organs are the blockchains of the ecosystem, all different, each with its own role, but each built from the same base.

Then comes the master piece, the Inter-Blockchain Communication Protocol (or IBC), the nervous system that links all the organs (the blockchains) in order to ensure their synergy, their communications and their interoperability within the human body (the Cosmos ecosystem). This is of course a simplified view and we invite you to read our complete guide on the subject.

The Terra (LUNA) and Cronos (CRO) blockchains are for example part of this ecosystem. If Cosmos (ATOM) has been in the news so much in recent months, it is because it has proven that its technology works and that it will undoubtedly have a say in the future of blockchains that is promised to us.
