Roland-Garros launches Web 3.0

For the 2022 edition of the famous tennis tournament, Roland-Garros and the French Tennis Federation (FTT) are launching into the world of Web 3.0. The 22nd of May will be marked by the inauguration of the virtual Philippe Chatrier court and the launch of a collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

Called “RG game, seat & match”, it will be launched on the Polygon (MATIC) network, a second layer solution of the Ethereum blockchain (ETH). It will be made up of 5,000 unique NFTs, sold at a unit price of 200 euros, each representing a virtual numbered seat on the Philippe-Chatrier court.

Owning an NFT from the “RG game, seat & match” collection will allow you to join a community of tennis fans and access unique experiences. It will also allow you to participate in various contests to try to win interesting gifts and benefits.

The seat numbers on the NFTs will make it easy to draw winners. For example, NFT holders will be randomly offered the 55 balls that will be used on centre court during the tournament, from the first rounds to the final.

From 19 May, it will be possible to purchase an NFT from the collection directly from the Roland Garros website. This is an important initiative, especially considering the scale of this Grand Slam tournament. For the year 2021, France Televisions has counted 39 million unique viewers on its airwaves
