Retreeb and the UN launch a collection of NFTs to fight malnutrition

by Patricia

Startup Retreeb has partnered with Unitlife, an initiative of the United Nations (UN) to launch a collection of 174 NFTs. All proceeds will go to the organization, which is fighting a disease that affects 150 million children worldwide: chronic malnutrition.

NFTs to fight malnutrition

This collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) is officially on sale this Friday, March 3, 2023. The brainchild of Jérémi Lepetit, CEO of Retreeb, and a collaboration with Unitlife, a United Nations (UN) initiative, it aims to fight a widespread yet little known disease: chronic malnutrition.

Called “17 Goals for the future”, the collection features the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the UN to provide a common plan for peace and prosperity for people and the planet.

Each goal is represented by 2 digital artworks projecting an optimistic and a dystopian version of the future. Each of them will be published between 2 and 5 copies and put up for auction today.

Goal 2: Eradicate world hunger. Optimistic (left) and dystopian (right).

Note that works holding a fifth edition will be held for future physical auctions on the model of the event at the NFT Factory.

Indeed, this project was inaugurated on 27 February at the NFT Factory in Paris, in the presence of representatives of Retreeb, Unitflife and the UNCDF. The first two NFTs were auctioned at a price of 1.7 Ether (ETH) and 5.2 ETH.

Chronic malnutrition is a little-known disease that affects nearly 150 million children worldwide. It is the consequence of a lack of quality food during the first 1000 days of a child’s life, including in the womb.

Children who do not receive adequate nutrition during this key period of their lives will suffer irreversible symptoms: stunted growth, impaired brain development, weakened immune systems and reduced life expectancy.

That’s why all proceeds from the sale of the 174 digital works in the “17 Goals for the future” collection will be donated to Unitlife. This UN initiative works around the world to fight chronic malnutrition
