Otherside : Yuga Labs’ metaverse lands in April

by Tim

Yuga Labs is making news once again with the unveiling of Otherside, its metaverse featuring several non-fungible token (NFT) collections. The game, developed with studio Animoca Brands, was officially announced on Saturday in a trailer giving us several pieces of information for the sequel.

Yuga Labs presents its metaverse called Otherside

This is definitely the month of March for Yuga Labs as their announcements keep coming, the latest one bringing more details about their metaverse.

On Saturday, the studio shared with us on its Twitter a one and a half minute trailer. This video, with its neatly animated visuals and a background of “Break on Through” by The Doors, also tells us the name of the game. If we had announced MetaRPG at first, it seems that Otherside was chosen instead :

So, the Yuga Labs metaverse is scheduled for April. And if until then, we were not sure about the elements present in the universe, the announcement answers our questions.

The video begins with the same visuals we first saw on the Bored Ape Yatch Club (BAYC) website and YouTube channel. It shows an Ape fishing outside a bar with the franchise’s name on it, which then catches a potion that he rushes to drink.

This transports him to the Otherside where he encounters characters from different collections of non-fungible tokens (NFT):

  • SharkDAO / Nouns ;
  • MeebitsDAO ;
  • World of Women ;
  • CoolCats ;
  • Mutant Ape Yatch Club (MAYC);
  • CrypToadz;
  • CryptoPunks.

A boon for the NFT market

Although it has not yet been explicitly confirmed, all these appearances in the trailer strongly suggest that Otherside will be a Play 2 Earn involving the use of NFTs from the various universes mentioned above.

It is also interesting to note that the announcement has significantly benefited the secondary market. Indeed, if since the end of January the NFT sector had been suffering from a drop in activity, the volume of the collections concerned has experienced a revival.

We can, for example, illustrate this phenomenon with CrypToadz, which shows the most striking evolution. The latter recorded a low point on 9 March with an average price of 1.89 ETH per NFT for a volume of 12 sales over 24 hours. On Saturday, the day of the Yuga Labs announcement, the volume peaked at 581 sales for an average price of 3.95 ETH.

BAYC and MAYC also confirmed the trend that took shape after the ApeCoin token (APE) was unveiled. Indeed, community members with an Ape were eligible for an airdrop.

While waiting for more information on this universe, it is already possible to register at somethingisbrewing.xyz and carry out a Know Your Customer (KYC) check. This also acts as a catalyst for speculation about the collaboration with the NFTs game studio Animoca Brands. Indeed, this collaboration, which has been in the works for 7 months, does indeed concern this new project
