Optimism takes action against airdrop farmers and removes 17,000 addresses

As its “OP” token airdrop approaches, Ethereum blockchain (ETH) second-layer solution Optimism has decided to remove 17,000 addresses eligible for it. The recovered tokens will be redistributed to other selected wallets.

Optimism removes addresses eligible for its airdrop

Optimism, the third largest overlay (layer 2) of the Ethereum blockchain (ETH) in terms of total locked value (TVL) and which operates through Optimistic Rollup technology, has taken a step against airdrop farmers.

Optimism is for the people, not the sybils. We have carefully scanned Airdrop 1 for sybil attackers who have slipped through the cracks. We are pleased to announce that we have removed an additional 17,000 sybil addresses and recovered over 14 million OPs. Bye bye sybils

In other words, Optimism has taken the decision to remove 17,000 addresses eligible for its future airdrop of “OP” tokens. The reason for this is that these would include people trying to take advantage of the airdrop system by transacting from several different wallets.

The team behind Layer 2 said that the 140 million tokens that were initially supposed to be sent to these addresses will be redistributed among the other selected wallets.

Optimism had officially announced on 26 April that 250,000 addresses would be eligible for the future distribution of the token, which is scheduled for the end of May or the end of June, according to a contributor to the Optimism Discord server.

Thus, 5% of the total OP tokens will be distributed at this time, and another 14% will be distributed through future airdrops. The rest will be distributed to various contributors in the ecosystem as well as to private investors.
