Ledger opens NFT art collection to showcase digital artists

Hardware wallet maker Ledger is aiming to assemble a collection of world-renowned NFTs. In addition, the company has also set up an internal working group and a non-profit fund to support artists

Ledger is putting together a collection of NFT

Beyond its hardware wallet business, Ledger has diversified its activities this year, through non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Last June, the French unicorn had already unveiled its NFT marketplace, but Ledger now wants to get even more involved in this industry, notably through a digital art collection presented last week:

This collection of digital works aims to become a worldwide reference by bringing together creations by both well-known and emerging artists, to help democratise NFTs among the general public.

Jean Michel Pailhon, the chief curator of the Ledger NFT Art collection, sees NFT as the next big artistic trend, using the influence of the Beatles on the 1960s and rap music on the 1990s as a point of comparison:

” Similarly, we believe that the 2020s will be remembered as the decade of NFT, triggering a secular trend of mass adoption of digital art. By 2030, NFT artists will be among the most celebrated and successful contemporary artists. “

Creation of a fund and working group

Beyond the NFT collection, Ledger also announced other new developments on the subject. One of them is a non-profit fund to support artists. While the budget for this fund was not disclosed, it will focus on logistical and financial support, as well as mentoring for “underrepresented communities” to enable them to enter the industry.

In addition, a working group has also been set up within the company with, among other things, the objective of promoting the new Ledger Marketplace.

While the NFT market is also suffering from the market downturn, the technology itself is no less promising and art is just one of the many areas to which it adds value. It remains to be seen whether Ledger will succeed in this part of the ecosystem with as much expertise as it has in its original core business.
