Emirates airline plans to accept Bitcoin (BTC) and move into Web 3.0

by Tim

Emirates, the popular Dubai-based airline, is planning to accept Bitcoin (BTC) and move into NTFs and the metaverse. Hiring is planned in order to recruit the necessary profiles for this Web 3.0 transition.

Emirates wants to accept Bitcoin and dive into Web 3.0

Emirates, the leading airline of the United Arab Emirates, has revealed that it wants to use Bitcoin as a payment method for its services.

In addition, the company is considering a full transition to Web 3.0 by considering non-fungible tokens and the metaverse for different use cases. This will include solutions to enhance the customer experience, staff training, as well as sales of NFT collections.

Emirates is not the first airline to go blockchain. AirBaltic has effectively accepted Bitcoin since 2014, and extended this to Ethereum (ETH) and Dogecoin (DOGE) last year. However, the Dubai-based company stands out as offering a more global solution.

Indeed, Adel Ahmed Al-Redha, the company’s chief operating officer, said that this adoption could go as far as tracking aircraft data records on the blockchain.

To meet all these needs, Emirates will recruit staff accordingly. At this time, we have no further information regarding possible dates or the precise content of these various projects.

The Arabian Peninsula at the forefront of blockchain

This news reflects the region’s momentum towards blockchain. Indeed, it was partly due to its regulatory clarity that Binance had opened a cryptocurrency hub in Dubai. More recently, it also obtained its crypto asset service provider licence, valid in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states.

Meanwhile, the Digital Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA), Dubai’s financial watchdog, landed in The Sandbox (SAND) metaverse earlier this month to open a headquarters.

As far as Emirates is concerned, while all of the company’s Web 3.0 ambitions are still unclear to the general public, it joins a long list of well-known companies that have made the choice to turn to our ecosystem
