Cryptocurrencies: finally, Donald Trump is said to hold $2.8 million in an Ethereum wallet

by Tim

While we learned this week that Donald Trump owned between $250,000 and $500,000 in cryptocurrencies, it turns out that the figures have been greatly underestimated. In addition to a $2.8 million portfolio, the former US president has generated more than $4.8 million in royalties from his NFTs.

Donald Trump owns more cryptocurrencies than previously estimated

A few days ago, we learned that Donald Trump, the former of the United States, owned between $250,000 and $500,000 in cryptocurrencies. In fact, a new report by Citizens for Ethics contradicts the previous figure, and it is in fact $2.8 million that would be present on an Ethereum (ETH) address of the person concerned:

Indeed, you have to turn to page 10 of a 40-page document listing the billionaire’s various financial assets to see this. In addition to this portfolio, the exact composition of which we do not know, we also learn that royalties on his collections of non-fungible tokens (NFT) have earned him nearly $4.9 million:

It is indeed worth noting that the former US president has published several collections of NFTs, including two series named “Trump Digital Trading Cards”. Deployed on Polygon (MATIC), these two editions have generated a total of nearly 15,800 ETH in volumes to date.

Defeated in 2020 by Joe Biden, the former president, who intends to take his revenge in 2024, has not always been a fervent defender of cryptocurrencies, at least in his public statements. In 2019, for example, he published a tweet with a relatively clear-cut opinion, rehashing the usual clichés used by detractors of our ecosystem:

“I’m not a fan of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, which are not money, and whose value is highly volatile and based on wind. Unregulated crypto-assets can facilitate illegal behaviour, including drug trafficking and other illegal activities… “

After realising that he could use these same assets for his own profit, it seems that Donald Trump has thus reviewed his position, although we must also put into perspective the fact that the amounts involved weigh relatively little in relation to his overall wealth.
