Prediction markets are clearly on the rise, given the obvious success of the two industry leaders, Polymarket and Kalshi. This hype now seems to have spread to the Coinbase platform, which appears ready to offer this type of crypto betting to its users.
Coinbase wants to create its own prediction market
It’s hard to ignore the unprecedented boom in prediction markets, which was clearly driven by last year’s US presidential campaign. And with good reason, as the leading platforms such as Polymarket and Kalshi are raking in record volumes, while their founders are becoming the world’s youngest billionaires.
This is a sector whose development can sometimes lead to problematic moral issues, as in the case of the Polyglobe tool, which allows users to bet in real time on the outcome of real armed conflicts taking place around the world.
Meanwhile, many cryptocurrency exchange platforms are deciding to join in on the adventure by launching their own prediction markets, as in the recent case of Gemini, which has been authorized by the CFTC to offer this type of service in the United States. As a result, its GEMI stock immediately skyrocketed.
Could this be why its direct competitor Coinbase is preparing to do the same? Rumors suggest so…
Rumors to be confirmed on December 17
It all started with rumors reported by Bloomberg, linked to an event organized by the Coinbase platform on December 17, whose objective would be to publicly announce the release of new products at the beginning of next year.
At issue: a prediction market directly integrated into its exchange, as well as the launch of tokenized stocks developed in-house, without the involvement of an independent issuer.
These products had already been identified on social media several weeks ago, thanks to screenshots from unofficial apps, all traces of which have since disappeared.

At the time of writing, the only official confirmation is an invitation to those curious to “tune in to the livestream on December 17 to find out what new products Coinbase will be launching.”
