Brave partners with BitPay to democratise cryptocurrency payments

by Patricia

Users of cryptocurrency payments service BitPay can now use their Brave wallet to make purchases. This could speed up crypto payments at more than 250 merchants

Brave Wallet now integrates BitPay services

Brave Wallet, the wallet of the popular web browser of the same name, now integrates BitPay, one of the most developed cryptocurrency payment services:

Stephen Pair, BitPay’s CEO, welcomed the collaboration:

BitPay applauds Brave’s adoption of the BitPay protocol. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the Brave team, we are able to promote quality online and in-store payments for customers and merchants who want to take advantage of the benefits of crypto payments. “

To use this feature, users will need to select BitPay as a payment option on eligible websites, then choose Brave Wallet. It will then be a matter of logging on to the wallet and proceeding to pay with one of the 13 cryptocurrencies supported by the service.

To date, Brave claims more than 57 million users, and supports more than 100 networks on its wallet.

For his part, James Mudgett, Brave’s vice president of Web3 products, bounced on the fact that this could encourage the adoption of cryptocurrencies as a means of payment in everyday purchases:

“With this new BitPay integration, we’re expanding the utility of Brave Wallet and making it easier than ever for our users to spend their crypto on real-world goods and services. “

BitPay: an increasingly comprehensive service

Founded in 2011, BitPay launched its payments service in earnest in 2017, which is now available in more than 229 countries.

In addition to Brave, the feature can be powered through more than 100 different cryptocurrency wallets, including MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet or even Trust Wallet.

As for the businesses that accept BitPay, the company lists more than 250 on its website. They cover a wide range of sectors, from fashion and travel to food and video games. Names such as GameStop, Burger King, Ralph Lauren and Spotify can all be found on the site. The service can be used for both direct purchases and gift cards.

On the merchant side, BitPay’s solution can accept cryptocurrencies. These payments can then be kept as they are, converted into fiat currencies so that they can be transferred to a bank account, or a mixture of these two options.

Over the years, we are seeing more and more similar solutions being developed, demonstrating a wider adoption that goes beyond the speculative.
