The awakenings continue. A new “dormant” wallet has just shown signs of life after 10 years of inactivity. The whale transferred 1,000 BTC, worth more than $17 million.
A new whale awakens and transfers BTC
Many dormant wallets have awakened over the summer, as the price of Bitcoin (BTC) reached new records. And the trend is not over, if we are to believe a new transfer from a wallet that has been inactive for 10 years.
According to analyst Lookonchain, the wallet, which contained exactly 1,000 BTC, has just been emptied. The funds were transferred to several different wallets.
The address received 1,000 BTC 12 years ago, which was worth $847,000 at the time. But in 2025, the price has skyrocketed: 1 BTC is worth $117,100 this morning. The whale has therefore made a profit of 1,3725%.
A fundamental trend in Bitcoin?
Some dormant whales have awakened in recent months. At this stage, sales from dormant addresses are not sufficient to really weigh on the price of BTC. That said, the broader category of the wealthiest investors has been selling off massively recently. Whales are indeed tending to massively reduce their exposure, with unprecedented sales for this category of investors.
Wallets holding between 1,000 and 10,000 BTC have sold more than 115,000 BTC in the last 30 days, equivalent to $12.6 billion.
This can be explained in part by profit-taking. With the price of Bitcoin reaching record highs, some of the major holders are selling. But the trend remains significant: large investors often reflect underlying market trends.
Bitcoin price rises in recent days
The price of BTC reached an all-time high about a month ago, exceeding $124,000. Since then, the cryptocurrency has undergone a correction that pushed it down to $107,000 at the beginning of the month. But the trend seems to have reversed since then:

At this point, the cryptocurrency is worth $2.335 trillion, with its price having skyrocketed 100% over the last 12 months. Bitcoin’s strong position therefore does not appear to be under threat in the short term.
