Donald Trump Will Pay $2,000 to the Least Affluent Americans — Good News for Crypto?

Things seem to be moving toward an imminent reopening of U.S. government agencies, which are currently paralyzed by a “shutdown.” This has given Donald Trump the opportunity to announce a $2,000 “dividend” for Americans with the lowest incomes.

Donald Trump promises a $2,000 “dividend”

President Donald Trump is currently facing a resurgence of the Democrats, as exemplified by the recent, highly publicized election of Zohran Mamdani as mayor of New York City. This is a complicated situation as the 2026 midterm elections approach.

Could this be the reason for a sudden easing of the budget standoff that has pitted Republicans against Democrats for weeks, leading to the longest “shutdown” in U.S. history? In any case, Donald Trump has just announced on Truth Social the planned payment of a “dividend of at least $2,000 per person (excluding high-income earners).”

These funds would come directly from the billions of dollars generated by the tariff policy implemented by the U.S. president, with the promise to then use the proceeds to pay down his “enormous $37,000 billion debt,” which has been rising rapidly in recent months.

We are now the richest and most respected country in the world, with near-zero inflation and a stock market at record highs. 401(k)s are at an all-time high. We are raking in trillions of dollars and will soon begin paying down our massive $37,000 billion debt. (…) A dividend of at least $2,000 per person (excluding high-income earners) will be paid to everyone.

“Own assets, or you’ll be left behind”

These statements were quickly qualified by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who explained that this announced payment “could simply correspond to the tax cuts outlined in the president’s plan—no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, no Social Security tax, and the deductibility of auto loans.”

Nevertheless, analysts are showing some optimism regarding this promise of cash. In fact, experts at the Kobeissi Letter estimate that these dividends “could affect more than 85% of U.S. adults, with an estimated distribution of over $400 billion.” All of this, combined with the end of a government shutdown, has clear upside potential—at least in the short term.

This context should help increase investor appetite for risky assets, such as cryptocurrencies. A wise choice, according to analysts at the Kobeissi Letter, as the dividends paid will not be enough to offset the long-term effects of inflation, nor even to resolve the debt problem, which “should remain the top priority.”

Ultimately, stimulus payments almost always end up becoming massive “unintended taxes.” In other words, you end up paying several times the value of your stimulus check in the form of inflation. Own assets, or you’ll be left behind.
