The Linea blockchain stops producing blocks on the day its LINEA token is launched

Deployed since 2023, the Linea layer 2 aims to establish itself as a major player in the nebula of blockchains developed in parallel with the Ethereum layer 1. This ambition has just been hampered by an interruption in its block production on the very day its LINEA token was launched.

The Linea blockchain stops producing blocks for 40 minutes

The number of layer 2s developed in parallel with the Ethereum blockchain continues to grow over time. According to Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, the current evolution of this ecosystem could even end up encouraging some Layer 1s to move there. At the same time, existing Layer 2s are continuing to develop, such as the Linea project led by the development company Consensys, best known for its management of the MetaMask crypto wallet. Its points campaign—considered far too long by some users—will finally result in an airdrop of LINEA tokens.

This is an important milestone, accompanied by the classic Token Generation Event (TGE) scheduled for September 10, which is supposed to make its LINEA cryptocurrency “the most important token to enter the ecosystem since ETH itself .”

But just as everyone was getting ready to go, a 40-minute interruption in block production dampened the mood.

During this period, the Linea blockchain status page indicated that “the mainnet sequencer [was] experiencing performance degradation and that an investigation [was] underway to determine the root cause and resolve the issue.”

A situation that is stabilizing

According to the Linea blockchain status page, this outage, which was detected at 5:52 a.m. French time (UTC) this morning, is in the process of being resolved. This is because “a fix has been implemented” several hours ago and its developers are currently monitoring the results obtained.

On Linea’s side, there has been no official communication—other than its status page—regarding this blockchain malfunction. As things stand, block production appears to have resumed its normal course.

This outage casts a shadow over the LINEA token launch process. This is particularly true considering that the Linea project had touted this decisive step on the X network in early September, timed to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the Ethereum blockchain, “without any service interruption.”

In any case, the Token Generation Event (TGE) is still scheduled for September 10. At the same time, cryptocurrency exchanges such as Binance, KuCoin, and Upbit are already in the starting blocks to trigger its official listing on their exchanges. Let’s hope that everything goes smoothly.
