Twitter introduces Ether tips (ETH)

The social network Twitter has announced that its users can now add Ethereum addresses as a mobile tipping option.

The Twitter Tips feature was first launched last September. It allows users to link their payment details to third-party services such as Venmo or Cash App.

Moreover, in this initiative, Twitter had integrated the ability to tip in Bitcoin (BTC) via the Lightning Network on mobile.

“Like Twitter, cryptocurrencies operate without global barriers. We’re excited to integrate Ethereum alongside Bitcoin payments in Tips, allowing more people to participate in the digital economy,” said a company spokesperson.

So, this news shows Twitter’s willingness to integrate cryptocurrencies into its social network.

Twitter opens up to blockchain-related technologies

Aside from developing the cryptocurrency tips feature, Twitter has also turned to non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

Indeed, the social network recently launched profile picture verification in the form of NFTs. However, this new feature is only available to Twitter Blue subscribers.

Users can connect their wallet and select any NFTs to add to their Twitter profile.

Finally, with these different experiences, Twitter has decided to create a team dedicated to blockchain to decentralise the social network.

The objective for this team is first to look at Twitter’s future strategy for cryptocurrencies and explore ways to decentralise
