G2 Esports to release NFTs in collaboration with Metaplex

Spanish team G2 Esports has announced that it will be offering non-fungible tokens (NFTs) for sale, mainly to its fans. The first collection will consist of 6,262 coins and will be unveiled as an airdrop in February.

Partnerships in the world of video games are on the rise. After the esport teams Vitality and Fnatic, it is now the turn of the G2 Esports team to offer a partnership with the world of blockchain.

Indeed, the latter has announced that it has worked in collaboration with Metaplex in order to offer exclusive non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to its fans.

The information was posted directly from the team’s Twitter account, announcing “exclusive access to rewards” for future purchasers, including player-signed apparel, discounts on the official online shop, and priority access to future NFTs.

This first collection will consist of 6262 unique pieces. The visuals of the NFTs will be made up randomly and will represent characters with equipment and a background that may vary.

The first beneficiaries will be able to leave an indelible mark on the works since it will be possible to give them a name which will be transmitted to future purchasers.

Let’s note that this is the second NFTs project of the Spanish esport team. Indeed, it had announced a first partnership with Bondly in June 2021, but it seems that this project will never see the light of day.

The announcement has since been removed from the G2 Esports website and there has been no further statement on the matter.

Carlos “ocelote” Rodriguez, CEO of G2 Esports, said of the new partnership:

“We built this project for those who believe in G2 and our commitment to the fans both physically and digitally for decades to come, rather than for those looking to make a quick buck. “

The team also said it had worked with Metaplex, a development platform for NFTs projects, to bring its project to fruition.

It is an open source protocol built on the Solana blockchain and dedicated to both novice and professional NFT creators. Metaplex is a subsidiary of the Metaplex Foundation, which recently raised $46 million to develop its ecosystem.

The market for NFTs on the Solana blockchain has been fluctuating for some time, with a daily volume of $6.26 million and a total volume of $109 million.

It may well become the main alternative to the Ethereum blockchain, currently the leader in the global NFT market.

Indeed, Solana allows low-cost and very fast transactions, where Ethereum has an often congested network and high transaction prices.

As for the blockchain as a whole, it currently has a market capitalization of $43 billion and a price of $137 for its token, the SOL.

The conditions for success are in place

At the moment, we have little information about the roadmap of the G2 Esports project. However, the first collection will be rolled out as an airdrop during February.

Although the announcement has received mixed reviews from the team’s fan community, the most reluctant should eventually give in. Indeed, the many advantages offered by the acquisition of a Samurai Army NFT are not negligible, and it is currently the only way to obtain them.

The parallel can only be drawn with the operation of the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), where the acquisition of an NFT provides long-term benefits, most of which are completely free.

It remains to be seen whether the G2 Esports team’s project will meet with the same success, but only time will tell.
