FTX case: Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) appeals his conviction

As we might have expected as soon as his conviction was handed down, Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) has filed an appeal. His attorney has filed a brief in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York

Sam Bankman-Fried appeals

On March 28, Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) was sentenced to 25 years in prison by Judge Lewis Kaplan.

Unsurprisingly, he has decided to appeal his conviction, a move that had been announced by the defense when SBF’s sentence was handed down. Attorney Alexandra Shapiro filed the request with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York:

The case must now go to the Second Circuit, and we have no date yet as to what will happen next. While the appeal may lead to a lighter sentence, it could just as easily have the opposite effect to that intended. Sam Bankman-Fried was originally facing up to 110 years in prison for all the charges he was found guilty of.

For the time being, SBF is still being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn
