Facebook starts testing some NFT features for user profiles

Shortly after Instagram announced its future support for NFTs on its platform, Facebook is following suit and is already beginning to test the feature in the US. Users will eventually be able to share their NFTs on the social network by connecting their wallet to it

After Instagram, Meta launches NFTs on Facebook

While Meta announced support for non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on Instagram back in May, the firm looks set to make the feature available on Facebook as well.

According to a post by Navdeep Singh, product manager at Meta, it will be possible for Facebook users to post NFTs directly on the social network or to present them as a collection on their profile.

Meta, which clearly wants to be part of the transition to Web 3.0, will allow users of the world’s most widely used social network to connect their wallet directly to the site.

Posts containing NFTs will be able to be commented, liked or shared in the same way as the classic posts we already know.

According to Mark Zuckerberg, it will one day be possible to cross-post to both Instagram and Facebook. However, this is a feature that is still in the early stages of development.

In addition, the social network is reportedly testing some interaction features such as chat rooms similar to those on the Discord platform, for example.

For the time being, the testing of NFT for Facebook is limited to certain content creators in the United States. No date has been given as to when they will be implemented for the general public.

Many new features expected

Back in May, we learned that Instagram would support the Solana (SOL), Ethereum (ETH), Polygon (MATIC) and Flow (FLOW) blockchains to introduce NFTs on its platform.

No details have been leaked on this subject for Facebook, but in view of the interoperability projects between the two platforms, everything suggests that the social network will follow the same path.

At the same time, Meta announced that its other applications, such as Messenger or WhatsApp, should also see the arrival of NFT-related features.

Mark Zuckerberg recently stated that Meta is working on augmented reality NFTs (3D NFTs), which will be introduced into users’ stories via Spark AR, the company’s dedicated software platform.

Meta also said that in order to mitigate the carbon footprint of NFTs, it would invest in renewable energy solutions. This also explains its choice of blockchains operating through proof-of-stake consensus (PoS).

Finally, according to the firm, sharing or publishing NFTs will be completely free. However, they will not be used to advertise on the network
