The Detroit rapper recently purchased a non-fungible token (NFT) from the Bored Ape Yacht Club for $450,000. The artwork was originally created based on the rapper’s outfit from one of his concerts.

Eminem joins BAYC club

The famous Detroit rapper bought a non-fungible token (NFT) featuring a Bored Ape in his likeness on December 30 for $452,000, or ETH 123.45 at the time of purchase.

The Bored Ape 9055 joins the artist’s collection of NFTs on his OpenSea page, the largest trading platform for collectible virtual art.

Eminem is not new to NFTs: in March, a stand-in for him appeared in a sketch explaining to an American treasurer what NFTs were and their promising future. In April, he announced the launch of his own collection of collectible tokens (seen here), one of which sold for $100,000.

The rapper now proudly displays his Bored Ape as a profile picture on the social network Twitter:

Rather comically, the artist behind the Bored Ape 9055 had posted a tweet on November 2 saying “I keep thinking Eminem will buy my BoredApeYC one day” :

It was digital agency SixWeb3 that said it helped the rapper complete the deal, nicknaming the NFT as “EminApe”, as it actually depicts the rapper with accessories he wore at a concert. The company had also previously collaborated with the American rap collective Wu-Tang Clan.

The NFTs’ wave of success

The success of NFTs has been proven, especially in recent months, as OpenSea data shows:

The Bored Ape club continues to welcome stars like Jimmy Fallon, Post Malone, Snoop Dogg and Stephen Curry, to name but a few.

It continues to make its mark on the NFT world, to the point where it has dethroned the leaders in the field, the CryptoPunks.

The BAYC market accounted for $877.63 million in secondary market sales in 2021, with a low price of around $250,000.
