Arkham Intelligence claims to have identified the Bitcoin (BTC) addresses of Tesla and SpaceX

Blockchain analysis firm Arkham Intelligence has apparently just pulled off a major coup. It claims to have identified the Bitcoin addresses of Tesla and SpaceX, and thus to know the number of BTC held by Elon Musk’s companies.

Arkham Intelligence tracks Tesla and SpaceX’s Bitcoin

Arkham Intelligence specializes in tracking the addresses of recognized entities. Remember that on Bitcoin, the entire network can be consulted, so it’s sometimes possible to trace an address back to its owner. This is what Arkham has just done for Tesla and SpaceX, as she states on X :

Until now, the addresses linked to Elon Musk’s 2 companies had not been revealed. If true, this will make it possible to track movements on the companies’ main addresses, and above all to know their holdings in BTC.

How much BTC do Tesla and SpaceX hold?

Arkham Intelligence claims that Tesla holds 11,509 BTC (equivalent to $780 million at the current exchange rate), spread over no fewer than 68 addresses. SpaceX, meanwhile, is said to hold 8,285 BTC ($554 million) across 28 addresses.

The analysis firm also explains that Tesla has only sold Bitcoin on 2 occasions. The company would have sold $272 million in the first half of 2021, then $936 million in the second half of 2022. At the time, this second sale came as a thunderclap – it corresponded to 75% of Tesla’s BTC holdings.

The data collected by Arkham Intelligence corresponds to the financial declarations made by the companies. Tesla is listed on the stock exchange, but SpaceX is not, so information on the latter’s BTC reserves has until now been imprecise.

Elon Musk has long shown an interest in cryptocurrencies – notably Dogecoin (DOGE). But he has visibly distanced himself from the ecosystem, and recently confirmed that his companies would never create cryptocurrencies. That said, Tesla and SpaceX’s BTC reserves show that the billionaire still believes in the sector.
