Following Coinbase last week, Kraken has now obtained its MiCA license from the Central Bank of Ireland. We take a look at the latest developments.
Kraken obtains MiCA license
As more and more crypto companies obtain their MiCA licenses, it is now Kraken’s turn to announce that it has obtained this valuable license, allowing it to offer its services to all investors in the European Union.
To do so, the cryptocurrency exchange has chosen to partner with the Central Bank of Ireland (CBI). Regarding the granting of this license, Arjun Sethi, Kraken’s co-CEO, spoke of a “strong signal”:
Obtaining a license from the Central Bank of Ireland, with its long tradition and experience as a rigorous financial regulator, is not just a matter of compliance. It is a strong signal of Kraken’s commitment to developing the crypto ecosystem through responsible innovation.
Prior to this, Kraken had already obtained registrations and approvals in Ireland, Belgium, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, and Spain. Furthermore, it is the first global cryptocurrency platform to obtain a MiCA license from the CBI.
