Cryptocurrencies are falling, and those linked to Donald Trump are among the biggest losers. How can we explain this reversal for TRUMP and WLFI?
Cryptocurrencies linked to Donald Trump are plummeting
While cryptocurrencies linked to the U.S. president had generated a lot of excitement in 2025, they are no longer in favor. The cryptocurrency associated with World Liberty Financial, WLFI, has dropped 27% over the past week:

The price of WLFI has been plummeting since early February
Official Trump (TRUMP), the other token associated with the U.S. president, has experienced a similar decline over the past week. Over the last 7 days, it has lost 22%.
Interestingly, the First Lady’s MELANIA token has fallen by only 7.3% over the past 7 days… But it’s important to note that the token is already on its last legs, having lost 91.8% since its all-time high.
By comparison, Bitcoin’s price has fallen “only” 16% over the past week. However, Ethereum’s ETH has suffered an even steeper decline, down 27%.
How can these declines be explained?
Several reasons explain the poor performance of WLFI and TRUMP. The general decline in prices is, of course, the biggest factor, with the cryptocurrency market failing to halt its slide in recent days.
For WLFI, the triggering factor appears to have been the investigation opened into World Liberty Financial. The company is accused of a conflict of interest following a $500 million deal struck with the United Arab Emirates.
More broadly, the U.S. president has been under pressure in recent days. Implicated in the Epstein cases, he is also facing massive protests in Minneapolis following abuses by ICE. This decline in the cryptocurrencies associated with him therefore seems logical given the particularly tense situation Donald Trump is facing.
