Prediction markets are clearly on the rise, given the obvious success of the two industry leaders, Polymarket and Kalshi. This buzz now appears to have reached the Coinbase platform, which is evidently ready to offer this type of crypto betting to its users.
Coinbase wants to create its own prediction market
It’s hard to miss the unprecedented boom in prediction markets, clearly driven by last year’s U.S. presidential campaign. And for good reason: today’s leading platforms, such as Polymarket and Kalshi, are racking up record volumes, while their founders are becoming the world’s youngest billionaires.
This is a sector whose growth can sometimes lead to morally problematic abuses, as in the case of the Polyglobe tool, which allows users to bet in real time on the outcome of actual armed conflicts taking place around the world.
Meanwhile, many cryptocurrency exchanges are jumping on the bandwagon by launching their own prediction markets, as in the recent case of Gemini, which received CFTC authorization to offer this type of service in the United States. As a result, its GEMI stock immediately skyrocketed.
Could this be why its direct competitor, Coinbase, is preparing to do the same? Some rumors suggest so…
Rumors to be confirmed on December 17
It all started with rumors reported by Bloomberg regarding an event organized by the Coinbase platform on December 17, the purpose of which is reportedly to publicly announce the launch of new products early next year.
At issue: a prediction market directly integrated into its exchange, as well as the launch of tokenized shares developed in-house, without the involvement of an independent issuer.
Products that had already been spotted online several weeks ago, via screenshots of unofficial apps, all traces of which have since disappeared.

At the time of writing, the only official confirmation is an invitation to the curious to “tune in to the livestream on December 17 to find out what new products Coinbase will be launching.”
